Dialogues with Pineapple Farmers in Basud, Camarines Norte, Pancit Bato factory workers in Camarines Sur, as well as senior citizens in Irosin, Sorsogon brought the Ang Probinsyano Party List (APPL) closer to the hearts of Bicolanos. The sectoral visits coincided with APPL’s DOLE TUPAD as well as DSWD Education Assistance Orientation last November 17-19, 2021.

Headed by Representative Alfred Delos Santos, the first Bicol Province that APPL visited was Camarines Norte where 200 beneficiaries are bound to receive Php4,650 financial assistance within 2 weeks time. The DOLE TUPAD Orientation were attended by tricycle drivers, vendors and farmers from at least 10 different barangays in the province.

Right after the TUPAD Orientation, Rep. Delos Santos visited the pineapple plantation in the Municipality of Basud, the biggest producer of pineapples in Cam Norte. Here, he was able to talk to 50 farmers who shared that despite their pineapples being known as the sweetest variety in the country, one of their biggest problems is the lack of fertilizer to grow their produce. Rep. Delos Santos pledged Php100,000 to help the farmers procure the needed fertilizers, as well as coordinate with TESDA to bring professional expertise to the farmers.

Day 2 was a series of DOLE-TUPAD Financial Assiatance Orientation in Bato, Nabua, and Bula, Camarines Sur for 150 beneficiaries. Aside from tricycle drivers, vendors and farmers, the beneficiaries in Cam Sur also included LGBT community – particularly those working in beauty parlors whose income were greatly affected by the pandemic. Bato Mayor Frank Bernaldez, Nabua Running Mayor & Vice-Mayor Dr. Butch & Atty Pogi Figuracion, and Bula Councilor Nelson Ballebar were in attendance to welcome Rep. Delos Santos.

Bato, Camarines Sur is known for its Pancit Bato. And Rep. Delos Santos did not let the chance pass by to visit one of its more popular factories, the Tañalas Pancit Bato Factory in Bgy. San Vicente. This factory’s production is 24/7, and consume about 200 sacks of flour daily. However, according to second generation factory-owner Hazel Tañalas-Ebardoni, their production is still labor intensive and all manual since they started in 1994. Rep. Delos Santos gave his word that he will connect them with DOST for professional advise and aid to improve their production.

Day 3 was a long drive South to Irosin, Sorsogon. Rep. Delos Santos was warmly welcomed by Irosin Mayor Alfredo Cielo Jr. and Vice Mayor Jesus Borlagan. About 256 Junior, Senior-High and College indigent students were chosen to attend the DSWD Education Assistance Orientation under Ang Probinsyano Party List. College students will get Php5,000 cash while Junior and Senior High School students will each receive Php3,000. Rep. Delos Santos said: “Hanggang nandito ang Ang Probinsyano Party List, taon-taon kaming babalik dito para tulungan kayong makatapos sa inyong pag-aaral”.

Alongside the Education Assistance Orientation for the Irosin Youth, the Senior Citizens of Irosin were also in attendance at the brand new INACT Gym. Rep. Delos Santos shared the house bills Ang Probinsyano List crafted for Senior Citizens. APPL’s first house bill for senior citizens was amending the Centenarians Act of 2016 from 100 years old to 75 years old to avail of the government’s cash gift. More importantly, the Senior Citizens Work Program and giving tax incentives to business owners hiring senior citizens. Each of the 100 senior citizens in attendance brought home a bag of grocery from APPL.

Rep. Delos Santos did not hide his deep love and concern for the Bicolanos: “Nagpapasalamat ako dahil sa lahat ng mga pinuntahan kong probinsya dito sa Bicol, napaka-init ng pagtanggap niyo sa Ang Probinsyano Party List. Lalo naming pagbubutihan ang paggawa ng mga batas na makakatulong sa bawa’t probinsyano. At para tugunan ang pangangailangan ng inyong mga probinsya, makakaasa kayong lagi namin kayong babalikan”.
