Ako Bicol Party-list (AKB) today (24 December 2021) donated 25,000 kilos of premium quality rice to residents of Southern Leyte, one of the areas devasted by typhoon Odette.
The two truckloads of rice arrived in Maasin City and was received by Mayor Nikko Mercado. It will be distributed to hundreds of families rendered homeless by the super typhoon.
AKB Rep. Zaldy Co said he ordered the rice delivery after typhoon Odette left a path of destruction in Mindanao and the Visayas.
Co said Southern Leyte is the Bicol Region’s “friendly neighbor” and thus deserves help along with other areas destroyed by the typhoon.
To recall, Ako Bicol Party-list, through the efforts of then businessman Zaldy Co, was among the first responders in Tacloban City and Leyte Province after they were battered by super typhoon Yolanda. Rep. Co sent 20 dump trucks and heavy equipment for road clearing operations, fuel tankers, including 19 electricians, mechanics, and cooks to help in the province’s recovery efforts.
