RED ALERT STATUS DUE TO LPA AND TROPICAL DEPRESSION, NOW RAISED AT BICOL REGION!

Due to the impending threat of the Low-Pressure Area (LPA) and the Tropical Depression (TD) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) in Bicol, the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (RDRRMC) Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has raised its alert status to “red” starting 5:00 p.m. of April 8, 2022 through RDRRMC Bicol Memorandum No. 26 s. 2022.

The raising of red alert status of the RDRRMC EOC was due to the presentation of science agencies, led by Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), during the regional and national Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment (PDRA) online meetings held separately today, April 8, 2022.

“We encourage all agencies to prepare for any eventualities,” OCD5 Director Claudio L Yucot said during the regional PDRA.

“In my five years as regional chairperson of the RDRRMC, this is the first time that there will be a weather disturbance like this during Holy Week. That is why we need to prepare our local government units and communities,” Director Yucot added.

Also included in the memo is the activation of the response clusters in the region, leading of evacuation for residents living in high-risk areas by the local DRRM councils (LDRRMCs), communication of weather related advisories to the community level by the provincial DRRM councils (PDRRMCs) and LDRRMCs, reiteration of social behaviors and hygiene measures in evacuation centers and response activities in relation to the Covid-19 pandemic and close monitoring of areas of responsibilities by the LDRRMC chairpersons.
