BODY OF 14 YEAR OLD DROWNING VICTIM FOUND ALONG BAGASBAS BEACH AFTER ALMOST 2 DAYS OF RETRIEVAL OPERATIONS

The search for the missing body of 14 year-old drowning victim ends last night as search and retrieval team found her along the shoreline of Bagasbas Beach, Daet, Camarines Norte.

After almost 2 days of search and retrieval operations (SAR) lead by Philippine Coastguard and joined by volunteers, the body of drowned 14 year-old female was found lying along the shore during lowtide.

The drowning incident transpired Friday afternoon at the beach along Purok 4 Barangay San Roque, Mercedes, Camarines Norte when the victim went swimming along with her brother and friends.

According to Mercedes Municipal Police Station, around 12:41 of April 15, 2022 a concerned citizen reported an incident of drowning involving siblings – 17 year old male and 14 year old female, residents of Purok 2, Barangay I of same town, who both went missing after being carried away by strong tides.

Personnel of said MPS immediately coordinated with Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) for the conduct of Search and Rescue Operation.

On the same day, authorities were able to rescue the male victim and brought to the nearest hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Meanwhile, the found body of the female victim was personally identified by her father.

Authorities appeal to public especially beach goers to be mindful of their own safety and avoid activities that might compromise lives along with the continuous observance of public health and safety protocols.

Note: The identity of the minor victims involved was intentionally hidden to give respect to the grieving family.
