VP Leni Robredo’s Team Starts Relief Ops in Ashfall-hit Sorsogon Town

Relief goods from the Office of Vice President Leni Robredo on Monday reached Juban, Sorsogon which experienced ashfall from Bulusan Volcano.

“We are currently preparing for our relief operations in Bulusan, Sorsogon, and the surrounding areas. Immediate needs identified are face masks and bottled water,” she said in a Twitter post.

The Vice President, who will end her term at noon on June 30, identified Juban and Irosin towns as the affected areas.

Sorsogon and nearby areas saw the phreatic eruption of the Bulusan Volcano that spewed ash on Sunday morning.

Outgoing Vice President Leni Robredo shared some photos of their relief operations in Juban, Sorsogon on Monday.

“Thank you to Mayor Tony Alindogan and Brgy. [Captain] Elizabeth Balaguer for the assistance. Thank you also to Gov. Chiz Escudero for welcoming our team,” Robredo wrote in a Facebook post.

This comes after a phreatic eruption was recorded in Bulusan Volcano at 10:37 AM on Sunday, which lasted around 17 minutes. It caused ashfall in Juban and Casiguran in Sorsogon.

Authorities are now monitoring the situation after Alert Level 1, indicating low-level unrest, was raised by state volcanology bureau Phivolcs over Bulusan Volcano.
